 Sexual Liberation

For my first project, I am going to do edgy fashion shoots. I will use Sexual Liberation as a physical expression or emotion in my project.

I was searching for inspiration to get my project started from somewhere so I decided to go and visit some exhibitions and art galleries. I went to Glasgow to The Lighthouse where is Street Level Photoworks Gallery and there was held Sibylle Bergemann exhibition. From her work, I found three photographs what really inspired me and gave me a direction of my project. These images gave me an idea about the locations what I would like to use.

I wanted to have sexy, provocative, seductive theme and thought that I will use “Sexual Tension” as a theme name. While looking for more inspiration I came across a video on youtube where Rankin talked about Helmut Newton 7 images that changed the fashion photography and there he said that “Helmut Newton came on its own in the 70s in the era of Sexual Liberation” and that gave me the idea for the theme what is called „Sexual Liberation” I chose this name because I think in the near future will happen the same thing if it’s not happening already. Here is weblink for that video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2iyIS7lfeY

These pictures below I took on my phone from Sibylle Bergemann exhibition what was held in Street Level Photoworks Gallery.

I like how this image is composed and how the background is used to lead the viewer’s attention on the subject. I wanted to take a similar picture but in a low angle and I found the perfect example what was shot by Antia Pagant in New York what you can see below.

I like the angle where from this picture is taken and also the use of background how the photographer left the model on the white background. On this picture, I like that the model is closer to the camera than on the one where from I got the inspiration and it looks like the photographer has used wide angle lens as you can see that the legs ar slightly distorted.

This image inspired me to do an edgy fashion shoot and also to use same similar location. I like how it is composed and depth that it creates. In this kind of photo shoot, I will be using two models one male who will be in the background and female who will be in the foreground smoking a cigarette. I will be using red and green gels what will be slightly lighting up the model and some parts of the location.

The image above shows the idea how I’m planning to use the gels, reds on the foreground in the scene and on the model and there are greens on the background what adds contrast to the image.

I like the simplicity of this picture and I wanted to use a similar location for my shot. I was looking what could give me more inspiration for that shot and I found something similar and I found perfect picture what would suit my theme and idea.

I like the angle where from this picture is taken and the use of wide angle lens what adds so much depth to the image. The sky is overexposed what helps to keep the attention on the model. The architecture is used as leading lines in the foreground and the background.

These images above show the style and the techniques that I’m going to use in my project.

I went to scout locations in Glasgow twice because the first time wasn’t so successful and on the second time I found pretty good places for the photo shoot.

I found the stairs what I was looking for and they are basically in the center of Glasgow where Sloan’s bar is located. I asked my assistant to get me the permission so we could get access to the stairs and fortunately we were allowed to use all of their premises. I created a map with the location positions and shoot direction from start till finush.untitled-1

I organized the photo shoot for Friday 30.09.2016 where I wanted to use male and female model but unfortunately, a day before the shoot female model said that she can’t come on Friday anymore but she could do the shoot on Sunday. So I canceled the shoot for Friday and rescheduled everything for Sunday but unfortunately the male model wasn’t available anymore so I had to do a shoot with 1 model. I spoke with the model day before the shoot to go over last details what I needed for a shoot and everything seemed to go well. I woke up on Sunday morning to a text from the model that she can’t come for a shoot because she had to go with her sister to a hospital, I had no other choice than to cancel the shoot again. I had to organize the shoot all over again because the model wasn’t reliable and the MUA had no time anymore to help me out. I found new model and MUA and organized everything for Friday 07.10.2016. On the day before the photo shoot, the MUA said she won’t be able to come anymore so I started quickly searching for another one as the photo shoot was on next day. I was lucky and got an MUA very quickly and everything seemed to go well from now on. When I woke up on the photo shoot day, the MUA texted me that she won’t be able to make to the photo shoot anymore. Fashion shoot without the makeup is not proper fashion shoot so we went to Frasers and asked them to get the makeup done what for we had to pay. We went on with the shoot, tried all the locations and got some good shots.

Everything didn’t go as I was planning at the beginning, I didn’t have a chance to shoot with two models because I got canceled couple times and after that, there wasn’t enough time to organize another shoot. If I would have a chance to shoot with two models then I would use gels for that image and all my pictures would have been in color instead of B&W. Due to the cancellation of the shoots, I didn’t have enough images to put together so I had no other choice than to use two photos from the same location.
